Some New Woodcuts at Chrissie Cotter Gallery presents some new woodcuts by Brigitta Summers and Slade de Plater that dwell in the awkward spaces of the city. Circumscribed constantly by the built environment, we find resonance between human and plant in the ways that our movements are controlled and redirected. ‘Some New Woodcuts’ are preoccupied with the fences and barriers that aim to constrain and protect, as well as the strange and unnatural forms that bodies (of both trees and people) adopt under these constraints. Simultaneously, we find levity in these spaces, in the colours and forms of both built environment and plant, and how these come together to create novel structures and patterns.
